The Client:
Argentus is working with a brand new manufacturing client on an excellent strategic procurement role. This company is a renowned innovator in their manufacturing category, with a strong working culture and a commitment to sustainability in their manufacturing operation. Today, they have tasked Argentus with a search for a Strategic Sourcing Specialist for their critical raw materials categories!
The Opportunity:
This individual will work onsite to support the company’s locations in the GTA (exact location confidential for now), on a sole contributor basis, with a mandate to develop sourcing strategy and supplier execution for the company’s critical plastics raw material category. In this sole contributor role, you will work closely with the materials scientists, and technical teams to deeply understand their raw material needs, and then go to market to source that raw material in a strategic way, minimizing cost while maximizing quality and finding opportunities for innovation. This role requires an outside-the-box creative thinker who is capable of developing an overall strategy for the raw materials purchasing, and executing that strategy through creative sourcing initiatives. You will act as a subject matter expert for the overall market for these key raw material commodities, and provide strategic procurement insight to the new product development process. In addition, you will work within the company’s ERP system to ensure that all supplier data is accurate, and identify opportunities for process improvements in the procurement and sourcing process.
The Ideal Candidate:
This role is a good fit for an established, mid-career procurement professional with significant procurement experience within raw materials for manufacturing organizations—particularly plastics. The successful candidate needs to have a strategic, outside-the box approach to procurement, as well as a technical background to understand the material science team’s sourcing needs. Proficiency with ERP systems including Netsuite, Oracle or SAP is also a key requirement for this role.
